ANNUAL SID METROPOLITAN DETROIT CHAPTER AWARD FOR SENIOR UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE STUDENTS DOING RESEARCH IN DISPLAYS AND INTERFACES INCLUDING ASSOCIATED ELECTRONICS TECHNOLOGY

The Metropolitan Detroit Chapter of the Society for Information Displays (SID), recognizing:

1. the economic potential of the Vehicle Display and Interfaces Industry in Michigan,
2. the need to encourage technology which supports display development and manufacturing,
3. the need to train competent technical professionals to lead and staff the display industry,

is offering an annual Academic Award to qualified senior undergraduate and graduate students involved in research or/and development of advanced display technology in Michigan.

The areas of interest include display, interfaces (electrical and operation) and associated electronics related advances in the fields of Electronic Engineering, Physics, Applied Physics and Optics, Process and Manufacturing Engineering, Automotive Human Factors, Automotive Displays, Human Machine Interface (HMI) and other related disciplines.  

ACADEMIC AWARDS:
Two SID Detroit Chapter Awards of $1500 each will be annually awarded to Senior Undergraduate or Graduate Students who are attending universities as full-time students during the Winter, Fall and/or Spring / Summer terms of each academic year. Award check(s) will be issued to the student(s) and presented during the Annual Symposium on Vehicle Displays. At least one award will be designated for a student attending a university in Michigan, and one award will be open to any student of any US university.

CANDIDATE REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Full time senior undergraduate or graduate student in good standing in a US/Michigan university.
2. Involved in the research or/and development of display, control & associated electronics technologies.
3. To be a student member of SID (membership fee provided by the Chapter).
4. Agree to present an oral paper during Annual SID Metropolitan Detroit Chapter's Vehicle Display Symposium describing his or her research related to proposed award.

Candidates should fill out the Metropolitan Detroit SID Academic Award Application Form, available at the top of this page. All Academic Awards applications should be received by July 31, 2025. Awards will be made entirely at the discretion and judgment of the Academic Awards Review Committee. The award decision will be finalized by August 15, 2025, and the recipient will be notified. A formal announcement and recognition of the award will be made at the annual Vehicle Display & Interfaces (SID-VDI) Symposium, 9-10 September 2025.

The application should include the following:
• Personal statement (max. four pages) describing student past research in display, interface or associated electronics technologies and its possible relevance to vehicle displays, and future interest in a career in displays
• Student resume
• Publication or presentation list, if any
• Letter of recommendation from faculty academic advisor, program director, or mentor
• Academic records / official transcript
